Kazakhstan Expands Trade and Economic Cooperation Tools with Tajikistan

As part of the institutional development of trade and economic relations between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Republic of Tajikistan, the foreign representative office of JSC "Export Credit Agency of Kazakhstan" (ECA, a subsidiary of the Baiterek Holding) held a meeting with representatives of the business community of the Sughd region in Khujand.

The main purpose of the event was to inform Tajik businesses about ECA's current financial and insurance support tools, hold bilateral B2B meetings, and strengthen practical cooperation between entrepreneurs of the two countries.

During the business program, special attention was paid to mechanisms for minimizing commercial risks in import operations from Kazakhstan. Participants were presented with solutions to optimize financial flows and ensure maximum transaction reliability through the use of ECA's insurance and financial products.

ECA's Regional Director in Tajikistan, Ramesh Khudoiev, explained the mechanisms for granting payment deferrals, emphasizing that these mechanisms allow Kazakh suppliers to guarantee shipment of goods, while Tajik buyers can receive goods without the need for advance payment. Separately, issues of effective use of letter-of-credit settlement forms involving the agency were discussed, along with tools for mitigating the risks of non-delivery of goods or financial losses in cross-border transactions.

"This is our second dedicated event this year. While the previous stage focused primarily on cooperation with financial institutions, today's meeting brought together current and potential importers of Kazakh products. We are seeing high, substantive interest in goods from Kazakhstan, particularly in food and light industry products. Tajikistan traditionally holds a leading position in terms of the volume of export contracts in ECA's portfolio, and we intend to consistently build on this success by adapting our tools to the specific needs of local businesses," said Ramesh Khudoiev.

Following the event, direct B2B negotiations took place between Tajik importers and representatives of financial sector institutions. Representatives of second-tier banks took part in the meetings, expressing readiness to provide financial support for the planned deals through the trade finance instruments of ECA and Kazakh banking institutions.

The foreign representative office of JSC "Export Credit Agency of Kazakhstan" has been operating in Dushanbe since 2019. The office's activities are aimed at building direct dialogue between Kazakh exporters and foreign counterparties, as well as stimulating mutual trade turnover.

ECA's regional network in key countries of export interest is a crucial element of Kazakhstan's state export infrastructure. The functions of these representative offices go beyond standard consulting and serve as an effective mechanism for deal support, fostering trusted, stable, long-term relationships with international banks and importers.

It is worth noting that by the end of 2025, the Export Credit Agency of Kazakhstan provided financial and insurance support for export contracts supplying Tajikistan totaling $185 million. The largest share of exports consisted of products from Kazakh metallurgical, petrochemical, and food industry enterprises.
