Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Slovakia Discuss Trade and Economic Cooperation and Take Part in Joint Business Forum

Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Olzhas Bektenov, held a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Slovak Republic, Robert Fico, who arrived on his first official visit to Kazakhstan. During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of trade and economic cooperation.

"Slovakia is a reliable partner of Kazakhstan within the European Union. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev places special importance on developing a comprehensive strategic partnership with the Slovak Republic. Our two countries share much in common in the areas of industrial development, agriculture, highly skilled human capital, as well as favorable geographical positioning. All of this provides a solid foundation for the further strengthening of Kazakhstan–Slovakia relations," emphasized Olzhas Bektenov.

“Meetings between heads of state and prime ministers serve as a driving force for the implementation of projects. Our interest lies not only in increasing trade turnover but also in establishing joint production facilities,” stated Robert Fico.

Last year, the trade turnover between the two countries amounted to $140 million. In the first four months of the current year, the volume of mutual trade increased by 46%. The importance of further measures to diversify the trade structure and expand the range of goods and services was emphasized.

Kazakhstan is interested in deepening cooperation in agriculture through the creation of joint ventures and the exchange of experience in organic production, as well as in the development of efficient transport and logistics routes to ensure stable access to international markets.

In light of the growing number of requests received by the Government of Kazakhstan from domestic transport companies, Olzhas Bektenov initiated discussions on further increasing the quota for transit freight permits. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation and to fully implementing the agreements reached during Robert Fico’s official visit to Kazakhstan.

Following the negotiations, the Prime Ministers took part in the Kazakhstan–Slovakia Business Forum. Representatives of the business communities of both countries discussed the development of ties in new areas of mutual interest. Slovak businesses are actively represented in Kazakhstan in sectors such as healthcare, energy, the food industry, and others.

In his speech, Olzhas Bektenov invited investors and representatives of the Slovak business community to jointly implement projects. Promising areas for cooperation and the strengthening of long-term partnerships contributing to economic growth were highlighted, including industry, energy, agriculture, the defense industry, and more. A key area of cooperation is the exchange of experience in water resource management within the framework of Kazakhstan’s Water Partnership Initiative, which provides for the modernization of water infrastructure and the introduction of advanced irrigation systems, among other measures.

Attention was also given to the favorable conditions created in Kazakhstan for IT professionals. Today, the Astana Hub International Technopark supports more than 1,500 startups, including those of global tech leaders such as Google, Microsoft, and others. Slovakia’s innovative IT sector was invited to launch startups within this dynamic digital ecosystem.

Closing the forum, the Prime Ministers of Kazakhstan and Slovakia expressed their strong commitment to the qualitative expansion of comprehensive and mutually beneficial cooperation.
